OBIMO COMMUNITY IN NSUKKA LOCAL GOVERNMENT OSTRACISES MAN FOR ABOMINABLE ACT

Wonders, they say, never ends as a 53 year old man, Mr. Ejike Okpe also known as SimBAD is ostracized from his community for committing an act deemed abominable by the highest decision making body in his community, Obimo in Nsukka Local government area of Enugu state.

Obimo community, situated on the outskirts of Nsukka city centre which houses the University of Nigeria, shares common borders with Edem community in the North; Lejja community in the south; Agbani Nguru in the east and Nkpologu in the west through Ikwoka-Obimo sitting on longitude of 07 21' 40.90141''E and latitude of 06 48' 49.97818''N.

Obimo community adopts ostracism as one of the approaches for instilling discipline in the community , and correcting societies most destructive elements by creating communication barriers between the community and people who have committed abominable act. 

An eye witness account revealed that man Mr. Ejike Okpe was officially ostracised on 18th March, 2024 by the Oha Obimo, for being a thorn in the flesh of the community. Prior to this development, he was being investigated for allegedly misappropriating community's fund to the tune of N20,000,000.00 (Twenty million Naira) provided for community project by the former government led by His Excellency Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi. But the last straw that broke the Camel’s back was an offence bordering on forgery of documents and swearing to false affidavit in the court of law with aim to discredit the election of a fellow Obimo kinsman who was elected into the State House of Assembly. 

Mr. Ejike Okpe, alleged that the winner of the election did not resign from PDP even when available evidence shows that PDP duly received his resignation letter. When the Concerned Obimo Youths  got wind of the development, they quickly petitioned the Oha Obimo to address the situation and bring normalcy to the community as the crime of standing against a kinsman in a court of law with fasle accusation is known as ‘Nhufu Ala’ which literally means an abominable act. All entreates to make Mr. Ejike Okpe see reasons with his community proved abortive as he moved on with his sinister plan. 

Consequently, Oha Obimo set up a committee to investigate and address the situation. After hearing the petitions, the Oha Obimo in its wisdom made the decision to ostracize Ejike Okpe. This practice, rarely invoked in recent times, serves as a severe punishment that isolates an individual from the community and its benefits. In addition to the ostracization, Ejike was also fined a live cow as a symbolic gesture of penance. This decision has sent shockwaves through the community and beyond, and highlighted the deep-rooted traditions and values held by the people of Obimo community.

The decision to ostracize Ejike Okpe by Oha Obimo was seen as a welcome development, with many supporting the traditional values upheld by the Oha Obimo owing to Ejike Okpe's heinous and reprehensible tendencies towards his people and community at large. According to popular opinion, the decision of Oha Obimo marks a significant event in the history of the community, highlighting the complexities of tradition, justice, and loyalty. As Ejike grapples with the consequences of his actions, the community faces a period of reflection and introspection on the values that have defined them for generations.

REPORT ON THE AWARENESS/SENSITISATION OF COVIG-19 IN OBIMO IKWOKA WARD.

1ST DAY, 29/3/2020
The awareness commenced on Sunday, 29th March, 2020 at exactly 6:54am at Akachele Obimo. From Akachele-Owerre-Okunukpa-Amekwuru-Ogwuoda-Umuiyiko-Amaoikudu-Ihuikwere-Amelugwu-Ikwoka-Amagu- Amaokpuhu-Amasakoba- Ameha-Ogbodu- Amabunagu-Akabuyisi-UUmuekwa- Uwelu Aguneze- Uwani Aguneze- Amohe- Isienu Akpotoro. We stop at Isienu Akpotoro because one the  DJ's Major instrument developed problem which every effort made to troubleshoot it proved abortive. Because of the aforementioned problem, the awareness from at exactly 12:26pm.

 SECOND DAY, 30/3/2020
The awareness/Sensitization started at Exactly 6am at Ameha Ugwu. From Ameha- Ogbodu-Amabunagu- Akabusiyi-Ogwuagu-Uhuonyishi Umuekwa-Etiti Umuekwa- Ugo Umuekwa- Uwelu Aguneze- Uwani Aguneze- Amaokpuhu-Amaohe- Isienu Akpotoro- Uwani - Akpotoro-Orodo Amagu-Azuagu Amagu- Amasakoba. The awareness without hitches ended by 10:45am.

THIRD DAY:
On the third day, 31st March, 2020. The awareness commenced at Eziani Obimo. Eziani- Ikwoka- Amaokidu- Ihuikwere-Amelugwu-Umuayiko- Ogwuoda- Amekwuru- Okunukpa- Owerre- Akachele. The awareness ended in praise Akachele by 12:05pm.

Please, during the awareness, we made sure that we touched almost all the village square's (Otobo) in Obimo/Ikwoka ward. During the awareness also, many people appreciated the efforts of our stakeholders and the President General Ajuona Obimo Town Union Ozor Titus Ezeora and His counterpart in Eziani Obimo Hon. Louis Ugwu gave us #2,000 each for food and drink.

THE MAGIC MAYOR VISITS OBIMO

Obimo/Ikwoka Ward welcomes Hon Chinwe Ugwu as Hon Celestine Ihesoro Ezechinedu, flags off campaign for his Second Tenure;

Obimo/Ikwoka Ward became one of the over ten Electoral Wards that became agog and were visited byThe Magic Mayor of Nsukka LGA, Hon Chinwe Ugwu as the 20 wards of Nsukka LGA, joined the other 259  wards in the Coal City State, in the-first-of-its kind simultaneous flag off of Councilorship Campaign, preparatory to the forthcoming 29th February 2020, LG Chairmanship and Councilorship Elections, in Enugu State.

The well attended rally, described as the best rally of the day by the Magic Mayor herself saw almost all the major stakeholders, the Ozo title family, women groups and youth groups of the ward, in attendance.

Hon Engr. Celestine Ezechinedu, who during his first tenure as councilor, became the best among equals, emerging the Leader of the elite Legislative Council of Nsukka LGA; historically becoming the first Obimo indigen to achieve that feat in the checkered history of that ancient electoral Ward.

As Leader of the Legislative Council, Ihesoro, as he is fondly called, also became one of the very few Couuncilors in Nsukka LGA's modern history, to uninterruptedly lead the Legislative Council for one full term of two years; a feat so rare in a highly politically completive LGA as Nsukka.

The Magic Mayor, who was evidently impressed by the massive turn out of party faithful in the ward, during her speech thanked the party men and women and indeed, the generality of Obimo people for their unflinching support for His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and his all inclusive Government as demonstrated in the last general election of 2019.

Heaping encomiums on the Councilorship Candidate the Magic Mayor, in her own words said, "I see the future of Obimo Politics in you."

It may be important to disclose that in the history of elections in Obimo/Ikwoka Ward, the PDP, since it's debut in 1999, has won Elections in all the pollen units in the ward, in all elections.

Siting the above as evidence, Ozo Sunday Ogbuke, who was described as being synonymous to Obimo Politics by one of the speakers in the event, while addressing The Magic Mayor on behalf of the Ward, described Obimo/Ikwoka Ward as an entirely PDP ward.

Asking the Magic Mayor to convey Obimo's Goodwill to His Excellency, the Governor, her boss, Ozo Ogbuke said that Obimo/Ikwoka Ward is not one of the wards that the Governor should be worried about as the ward is one hundred plus percent with him.

He, on behalf of the ward, eulogized the Magic Mayor for all the good works she has been doing in Nsukka LGA, describing her as a transformer.

Other dignatories and major Stakeholders who made the day tick were Hon. Obiora Ugwoke, the State Treasurer of the party, Hon Malachy Onyechi, the former two time Concilor of the ward, and currently one of the Magic Supervisors in the Magic Mayor's adminstration; Hon Ugonna Ogbuanya, the Local Government Executive of the ward, Ozo Ejike Okpe, the ward's PDP Chairman and the State Coordinating Chairman, Enugu State Forum of Ward Chairmen.

Others were, Ozo Willy Ezeora, Former Executive Assistants to the Governor of Enugu State: Hon John Okoro and Hon Johnson Amaechina; the two Members of Nsukka South Development Center, Hon Mrs Oluchi Ugwoke and Hon Samuel Ugwu; all the executives of the party, etcetera, etcetera.

In consistency with her tradition, the Magic Mayor also gave to Ezechinedu, the PDP Candidate for Obimo Ikwoka Ward, her modest personal package of support.

Hon Obiora Ugwoke, the State Treasurer of the party, who dutifully performed the historic and significant duty of handing over the party's flag to Ihesoro, the flag bearer, spoke and praised, in glowing terms,  the Executive Governor of Enugu State calling him, "the father of Enugu State". He pledged that Obimo/Ikwoka Ward will forever remain a PDP ward and will consistently support Governor Ugwuanyi and his administration. He also eulogized the virtues of the Magic Mayor, saying that her administration has achieved so much within so short a time.

I, Comrade Ofielu Walter Chukwuma, President Obimo Youths Forum on behalf of Obimo Youths Forum want to formally thank the God Almighty, who against all odds made the First Obimo Inter-school debate competition for all the Secondary and Primary schools in obimo communities a success yesterday.  It was indeed an epoch making event.  My Sincere appreciation goes to all the Obimo Illustrious sons and daughters who in one   way or the Other contributed greatly to the success of the program. I also want to thank immensely those that honoured the event and those that could not make it to the event due to one reason or the other.  Series of of scholarships was awarded to many Obimo students and pupils through some of our patriotic obites. In conclusion, I pray that God Almighty in his infinite mercy will continue to elevate you all beyond expectations. AN EPISTLE OF APPRECIATION

🤠 What a euphoric transpired accademic event, that sends a transcendental     signal into all Conners of Obimo land, pinpointing Obimo students to have arrived. And indeed, analysis has proven them to have arrived, in the accademic parlance, with all accademic prowes, to even compete with their counterparts accross the globe. This euphoristic accademic scenario that took place  yesterday 31st of October 2019 at Hill-top Ajuona-Obimo,was indeed marvellous in our sight. This event did not just end yesterday, as it is a continual formidable orientation towards a better tomorrow. According to Fredrick Douglas, "it is easier to build strong children, than to repair broken ones" With the continuity of this kind of  formation in our land, OBIMO will make a better future. Youth Forum  has greatly impacted on  the Obimo future leaders, which in my own view, is "an  indelible mark, which both history & posterity will never forget". In this platform also, I want to specially commend & applaud the effort of the O. Y. F. president---- Comrade  Ofielu Walter C. I said bravo🤝, to your mental bravura & accademic prowes. And to Obimo Youth Forum, I said 🙋‍♂greetings to you all,🙋‍♂ as things of this magnitude depicts a  strong emotion & patriotism for our beloved OBIMO LAND.
